Overview: Students learned about the Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser, Canadian artist Sandra Silberzweig and Spanish artist Pablo Picasso who all incorporate colorful, geometrical, pattern filled compositions that are abstract and stylized.  

 

For this project, students drew inspiration from all three artist style using chalk on large black cardstock paper to create a self-portrait. In the following weeks, students added 3-4 pattern designs to the face. Added pattern to the border and colored the background. The final touch was to use white chalk to outline their self-portraits and name to make it epically expressive.
