INTRODUCTION TO ART

SCRATCH ART DRAWING
9TH-10TH GRADE

Overview: Student learn to use thick paper that is coated with black ink to create a subtractive process of drawing called scratch art. A stylus with a metal pointed nib is used to create various values and texture. For example, hatching cross-hatching, and stippling. 
 

HUMAN FORM VALUE COLOR PENCIL DRAWING
9TH-10TH GRADE

Overview: Students draw the human figure using pencil, in a straight, still, standing pose. Color pencils were used to create the illusion of form in the human figures by adding values lights and darks or highlights and shadows. Afterwards, students are a design to the background.

ENLARGE CARTOON PAINTING
9TH-10TH GRADE

Overview: Students picked a cartoon image to transfer the image from the 1” grid to the 4” grid. Then, a 16”x 20” tag board to draw a 4” grid using pencil and a ruler. Students checked the orientation of the cartoon to see if the paper needed to be horizontally or vertically. The boxes are numbered 1-20 to assist in drawing the cartoon correctly. Afterwards, the cartoons are painted in a flat-style color palette. 
 

ZENGTANGLE SELF-PORTRAITS
9TH-10TH GRADE

Overview: Students create their own version of a self-portrait and incorporated zengtangle patterns. Explained the different attributes of a self-portrait. For example, the student had the option to render their self-portrait in a realistic form, stylized form, or morph form using Snapchat filters to alter facial features. 

DOUBLE PINCH POT SCULPTURES
9TH-10TH GRADE

Overview: Students learned pinch pot making methods to create and join two pinch pots together. Sculptural attributes such as facial features, legs, feet, clothing etc. were added to create the animal sculpture.
