Overview: Students learned about the anatomy of a caterpillar. Next, students learned to use clay to create pinch pots and joined the pinch pots together form the body of the caterpillar. Once the body of the caterpillar was done. Students added pattern impressions by using objects such as forks, wood sticks, and spoons.

The following week, students used oil pastels to create patterns on the surface of the caterpillars. The oil pastel acted as a resist when the watercolor was used to further enhance the caterpillars.
